CAD Specific Functionalities
CAD systems and their files are notoriously complex from a PLM perspective. CAD files can depend on each other through references for a flurry of different reasons. The most common reasons are that product components need to be modeled separately and drawings are still usually separate 2D models. For these reasons an assembled product usually has at least one file for each component and one additional file for each related drawing.
A CAD model can usually only be opened and updated if all referenced models are available as well. YaPlm helps users to manage CAD models and their references, so that multiple users can work together on different parts of a product, with revision control for traceability.
Some of the CAD-specific functionality described here is that assemblies can be opened and reviewed in different states using filters (see Open According to Revision Filters), component variants can be managed using part factories (see Part Factory) and drawings-sheets can be saved as separate files (see Saving Specified Drawing Sheets as pdf/dxf).
